What Is Acupuncture?

The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors: emotional states such as anxiety; stress; anger; fear or grief. Poor nutrition; weather conditions; traumas; infections; hereditary factors; toxins and poisons. Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions: Emotional issues; depression, anxiety; stress. Muscular skeletal issues: back pain, sciatica; shoulder/neck pain; tennis elbow; migraines/ headaches; indeterminable aches & pains. Gynaecological issues: infertility; both male & female issues; fibroids; cysts; PCOS; menstrual problems; impotence. Pulmonary issues: asthma; skin conditions; circulatory issues; facial paralysis… And much more…

Why should you think about trying acupuncture?

Emotion: Are you feeling stressed & anxious? Do you feel sad, hopeless or empty? Do you feel overwhelmed, fearful? Are you worrying all the time? Angry, irritable? Depressed; Palpitations; Heart issues; HBP; Insomnia; Tinnitus/Dizziness; Hot/Cold limbs; Excessive sweating; Heavy feeling in your head.

Hormones: Extreme mood swings; difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions? Peri & Menopause, Hot flushes; Thyroid issues.

Pain: Trauma; Shoulder, neck, back issues; TMJ; Sciatica; Arthritis; Muscular/Skeletal; Endometriosis; Menstrual issues.

Stomach Issues: Bloating; tummy ache; indigestion; constipation; diarrhoea; cramping issues.

Skin & Breathing issues: Acne; Psoriasis; Eczema; Asthma; Sinus; Immune issues

All the above impact your daily lives, making it hard to cope with problems or even routine tasks. In time they will also manifest physically as fatigue or unexplained pains, headaches or stomach issues.

How It Works

Your initial visit will include a consultation to discuss, in complete confidence, any concerns or issues you may currently be dealing with. After your consultation there are a couple of non-invasive physical diagnostic tests: pulse taking, looking at your tongue and feeling your abdomen. You will then receive your first treatment. This will take 75 minutes and any subsequent appointments take around 45 minutes. During this visit your practitioner will be collating all the information in order to build up your treatment plan.

What Does It Feel Like?

Is it painful? Many patients are concerned that acupuncture maybe painful but as the needles are flexible and about as thick as two human hairs there is usually only a very slight sensation as it enters the skin. Sometimes patients also feel a dull ache on the acupuncture point but this also only lasts for a few seconds and is generally not considered to be uncomfortable. Most people find acupuncture relaxing and feel very calm during and after a treatment; others feel calm, relaxed but energised. Everyone responds differently. You may also feel a little tired or sleepy so if possible, try to arrange a relatively restful and quiet day, especially following your first treatment.

Is it safe?

Acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments currently on offer in the UK, in fact in 2001 a number of studies concluded that the risk of serious adverse reaction to acupuncture is less than 1 in 10,000. Any minor side effects that do occur, such as dizziness or bruising around needle points, are infrequent, mild and self-correcting. Information For Parents:

Backed by a growing body of evidence, acupuncture can help with a wide range of childhood conditions, such as but not limited to – ADHD, allergies, anxiety, asthma and respiratory issues, bed-wetting, depression, digestive issues, repeat ear infections, eczema (as well as other skin conditions), chronic fatigue, recurrent infections, sleep.

While many children do not mind the use of fine acupuncture needles, and mother’s seem very happy to have their child needled! I personally do not use a needle on a child, until the child themselves asks for one. And they always do!

Toyohari acupuncture is exceptionally well-suited for children, including infants, due to its incredibly gentle, non-invasive and painless techniques.Using specialised silver tools that lightly tap, rub or stroke the skin above themeridians of energy (Qi). Children respond very quickly to Acupuncture and Qi movement in their bodies. Much more quickly than adults.

This gentle, needle-free approach helps regulate the child’s body and enhance their vitality in a deeply relaxing way. Toyohari practitioners maintain high standards, ensuring skilled care for sensitive patients.
